Abstract

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is used in the specialty of orofacial harmonization for facial filling procedures, providing harmony in cases of poor aesthetics. The aim of this study was to find out whether there are any changes to the labial folds after the application of hyaluronic acid, by means of a medical record report. The medical record selected was that of a female patient who had her lips filled with hyaluronic acid and had complete photographic documentation: before the procedure and in the late period 108 days post-operative. The expert comparison was made using the Paint Microsoft editing tool, with the aim of obtaining at least twelve points of coincidence between the pre-operative and post-operative photographs. The lip furrows were classified according to the method of Suzuki and Tsuchihashi (1971), and the research data was recorded on the modifiedsheet of Stamm (2014).

Descriptive statistics were compiled in an Office Excel spreadsheet. After comparing the photographs, it was possible to see that the hyaluronic acid injected into the lips did not interfere with the cheiloscopic identification, however this evaluation period was not sufficient for the reappearance of some grooves found in the pre-procedure phase.
