Abstract

Introduction: Human identification is performed by fingerprints, dental records or DNA. Nevertheless, all process is not always available. On Forensic Dentistry context, the expert needs to be alert in cases where there is an absence of dental documentation, to seek other parameters that may serve in identifying missing person process. Missing persons smiles in photographs present in social media sent by the family can be analysed and used for identification purposes. Case report: The present study reported four cases, two men and two women, in which selfies present on the missing persons' social media were used. The ante-mortem and post-mortem confrontation with positive results in human identification were achieved. Conclusion: The reproducibility of the smile position in the AM photograph is a limiting factor due to the random positioning of the operator that promotes changes in the position of the head and arm. The method is useful and advantageous since is approachable for every social and economic context.
