Abstract

After the enactment of the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA), cases of child violence gained greater prominence in all Brazilian society. Like other health professionals, the dentist, by acting in the head and neck area, is able to identify and diagnose lesions suspected of child violence, proceeding to denounce such cases since it is his duty to ensure the health and dignity of your patient as recommended in the Dental Code of Ethics. This study aims to analyze the level of knowledge of Dental Surgeons and dentistry students regarding child abuse. This is an integrative literature review carried out based on searches in the Electronic Databases Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) Us National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (PubMed) and Portal da Capes. Most of the studies analyzed have shown that both dental professionals and academics do not have adequate knowledge about child abuse and have difficulty in diagnosing and referring suspected cases correctly. It was noticed that there is a gap on the subject and it is suggested that the theme has a more in-depth approach during graduation in order to prepare the future professional to face this problem.
