Abstract

The increase in violence against women, in its various forms, has been widely reported. Among these, physical aggression is one of the most prevalent. This study investigated the profile of facial injuries in women victims of violence treated at Hospital da Restauração, Recife-PE, in 2023. After approval by the Research Ethics Committee, a database was created using information from the hospital's archived medical records. Of the 8,126 records analyzed, 60 met the study's inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results show that women between the ages of 20 and 59 were the most affected, presenting injuries primarily in the frontal and orbital regions, with significant occurrences in the auricular, nasal, zygomatic, and maxillary areas. Most of the injuries were caused by blunt and sharp instruments, with firearm-related injuries being less frequent. It was noted that most victims were treated outside the ideal time frame, which may increase the risk of complications. The study highlights the severity of facial injuries in women victims of violence, underscoring the importance of rapid and effective care. It also emphasizes the need to improve the collection and documentation of critical data, as well as adopting a multidisciplinary approach to ensure the comprehensive recovery of victims and develop more effective strategies to combat violence against women.
