ASPECTOS ÉTICOS, LEGAIS E TERAPÊUTICOS DO USO DE PRODUTOS À BASE DE CANNABIS NA ODONTOLOGIA BRASILEIRA: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA

Abstract

Introduction: Cannabis sativa is a plant with medicinal uses, whose compounds can be extracted and used in different areas. Its use in clinical dental practice is discussed due to its therapeutic properties. Objective: This scoping review sought evidence about the legal, ethical and therapeutic aspects of the clinical prescription of Cannabis-based products in Dentistry. Material and methods: The selection of articles was carried out through a search in the PubMed and SCOPUS databases, with the keywords “C. sativa”, “cannabidiol”, “cannabis” and “Dentistry”. The scientific articles were selected for qualitative analysis after applying the eligibility criteria. Results: 24 articles were included that discussed the applicability of Cannabis-based products in Dentistry and Brazilian legislation. The study designs of the included articles were: literature review, randomized clinical trial, in vivo study, in vitro study, scoping review and systematic review. Law No. 11,342/2006 registers the legal use of Cannabis for medicinal and scientific purposes. RDC ANVISA No. 660/2022 regulates that these products can be prescribed by qualified professionals, such as dentists. CFO Resolution No. 82/2008 regulates the use of herbal medicines in Dentistry. The main therapeutic properties of Cannabis-based products described were anti-inflammatory, analgesic, osteoinductive and antimicrobial actions, which have applicability in Dentistry. Conclusion: the literature on the properties of cannabinoids and legal records suggests the ethical, legal and therapeutic predictability of Cannabis-based products in Dentistry.
