Abstract

Abstract: Despite the improvement of legislation to combat violence against women, the number of cases only increases. The dentist, due to the proximity to clinical care and the possibility of proving the physical aggressions suffered on the patient's face, play a relevant role in the notification of cases and in the adopted protection policies. The objective of this study was to raise the panorama of knowledge and attitudes of dentists and dentistry students in face of compulsory notification in cases of violence against women; comment on the relevant legislation; on how notification should be made and define the need for emphasis on this subject in Dentistry courses. The research was observational, transversal, quantitative and had as main ally the creation of a questionnaire in Google Forms®. Among the results, it was observed that only 35% of the participants knew about compulsory notification; 67.7% reported that they felt comfortable doing it, but only 5.4% had already done it and 99.1% of the interviewees said they thought it necessary for this subject to be more widely discussed in undergraduate curricula. The results were analyzed descriptively and some hypotheses were analyzed statistically using the chi-square statistical test. The study concluded that most participants do not seem to know about compulsory notification, making it of paramount importance to emphasize in the undergraduate curricula the relevance of compulsory notification in cases of violence against women, thus contributing in a large scale to the reduction of cases of violence against women.
